Getting back to work.... doing what I love!

I had such a happy day at work today. My first trip back out to one of my communities since I had my fall (may 16) and It was fantastic it felt like I was home. It was great to see colleagues and my families that I work with. I had a great driver as I am still not allowed to drive long distances so I had my own personal packhorse and driver today. Lol! I am learning that all that I am learning that all that all of these baby steps are actually big steps. I absolutely love my job it is the best job I have ever had!  What a fantastic and unique experience it has been!

Cat in the hat close up of face painting.

I was so excited about how well the face painting turned out. I had one very cute cool cat on my hands. I find that you can really finish of a costume with a painted face and I think it is easier than it look. I find it hand to have a drawing or  guideline to work from.  I have made a few discoveries about getting better results with facepainting over the years. I am only an amateur face painter and have only ever used the jars of face paints that you can buy in any craft store.So these tips are from an amateur aimed at amateur face painters using "entry level" resources.

I have found that

• good quality fine paintbrushes work really well and allow for fine detail to be painted without fuss. I tried for a while to use cheap brushes but I just couldn't get good results using them.
• A sea sponge makeup sponge is great for painting the background colour. I wet it squeeze it out really well and then put a bit of the background colour on a pallette and mix a bit of water in to thin it out then run the sponge over it, I test it on the back of my hand first then paint the face.
• I always use a plastic pallete and use a palette spatula to get small amounts of paint, i find this heaps easier than working from the jar.

Cat in the Hat for book week dress up day at school.

Ethan wanted to go as the Cat in the Hat for book week dress up day at school. We found the hat spotlight so that was a great starting point. Not wanting to spend a great amount of money on the costume I decided that he could use a pair of black pants that he already had and his black shoes. the pieces i added-

• A black shirt from kmart for $2 (I went with a short sleeve shirt because it is too hot for long sleeved here and you cant get them anyway lol.)  and painted with white paint on the shirt to look like fur.
• A piece of felt from spontlight and cut it into to the bow shape and used a safety pin to attach it to the shirt
• a pair of small cotton gloves from woolworths in the cleaining aisle.
• I painted his face which finished off his costume.

It didn't cost much and looked great and he won best dressed for his class which was exciting. Two of his mates went as Thing One and thing Two and they looked great as well and also won best dressed for their class.

A very bittersweet night last night for me..... I said a very sad goodbye to my mum as she headed back to Brisbane. It has been so great having her here, the amazing support and motherly love has helped me get through the last month. It was really hard to let her go ( yes i cried like a baby at the airport) but the sweet part was that my gorgeous niece Emily came up from Brisbane to spend 3 weeks with us. :)

We are back from Darwin. My fracture clinic appointment/ follow up didn't quite go as hoped. My right wrist is healing well and the surgeon is happy with the progress however my left wrist is a different story. An xray and ct scan revealed that the bone hasn't healed well and there was concern about the stability of the bone graft and plate as one of the screws is sitting very close to the joint which isnt ideal. The decisions made to put another cast on for 4 more weeks with a review again then. If it hasnt healed then i guess it is back into surgery for me. I was feeling pretty down yesterday and the worryingbthing is that my left hand is my dominant hand. The positive is that we can still go on our planned road trip as the surgeon gave the go ahead which is a good thing. Just trying take each day as it comes.

So Seriously over all this right now. I am tired of being in pain, tired of being in here, tired of having to sleep with ear plugs and miss my family. I just want to go home and get on with life and have everything back to normal. Ok rant over!

Tonight i saw the positive side of social media with tweens. Jazzy's friends rallying around her to provide support and cheer her up with some gorgeous comments on instagram. It truly warmed my heart to know that while she is in the midst of her little world being in a state of chaos, she has a great local support network.

Brad Harris my darling, you are a genius! Ear plugs worked a treat and i slept quite well. Feeling a little better equipped to deal with what today has to throw at me. Here's hoping the surgeon is happy with the progress and the end of my hospital stay is near. Either way i get to see Jazz and Than tonight so i am very excited about that. I miss them so much.

Thanks everyone so much. For all the lovely comments and best wishes (even the silly buggar ones hey Trish Latter Simone Louise Eldering Brad Harris and Sharon Quirk Fiona Lambert) they have put a smile on my face and have made me feel very loved and blessed to have so many caring people in my life. Feeling a bit better today, still pretty painful but better. Surgeon says that i won't regain full function in my left wrist as the bone was badly damaged as was much of the cartilage i had to have a bone graft/ artificial bone added so the plate could be fitted since the end of mine was in the surgeons words "powdery". My netball days are very much over, i think swimming will become my exercise of choice, a bit of non contact sport will suit me better i think ;). Onwards and upwards now, just gotta take it one step at a time and as much pain relief as i can get my mits on lol. ;) keep the interesting posts on fb coming so i have something to keep me amused. Xoxox

Update... Waiting to go into surgery, hopefully within the hour. Ct scan of right wrist showed more damage than the x-ray so will be getting steel plates in both wrists.

Thanks to everyone for well wishes. Been a crazy few days and pretty painful. Surgery today then the recovery begins. I was to fly to Brisbane today for family/ friend time and too surprise some friends but that isn't happening and i am really sad. Happy confirmation communion day darling Sarah so sorry Trish Latter :( Thanks to our friends in ktown for your support and offers of help it means a lot. Thanks to Todd and Rachel Loveday for nice again housing and feeding us you guys are wonderful. Thanks to my amazing husband Brad Harris for looking after me in your beautiful laid back caring way i know this has been tough on you too. Love you heaps xoxox. Will keep you posted with progress.

Today I think i encountered a real life stunt bird fly .... I was driving along a highway at 130km (nt speed limit) when a significantly large black/ brownish bird basically drops out of the sky (obviously flying above my range of vision) and starts flying towards my car. Thinking oh no i am about to kill a bird, i brake (just like i was taught in 4wd course... Good girl i am lol) at which point the bird flies skillfully underneath my car; flies out the back and then happily (i think) flies off onto the bush ( from my view through the rear view mirror). Yet another near miss and a pretty cool story to tell.
